Throughout my years in the world of management I have seen so many good people thrown into their new management positions having to face unknown and daunting  problems. Many fall by the wayside with the sudden and unprepared for challenges of people not technical problems. In some cases, the job of managing was so stressful that it ruined their working life and impacted on their their personal lives. Others were like ducks in water from day one.

Why does this happen? Well I believe that there are a few god reasons.

Skill Set adjustment

Most new managers get promoted based on their technical and productive skills without any significant training. This is grossly unfair because the new manager is about to enter a totally new world where his previous skills will soon be forgotten. The supervisor fails because he does have the management skills to overcome the problems.

Mental Adjustment

New managers often fail to make the mental adjustment that the management role demands. In other words, they are trying to be workers and managers at the same time. It won't work!

Successful managers think and behave like managers and build a new image with far broader objectives.

Some Examples . . .

A good example of this problem is when a supervisor says "it won't get done correctly unless I do it myself." He has lost his way because his job is to get someone else to do it!

Another early sign of a new manager trouble is when he starts "micro-managing" the work of all his subordinates. actual performing their work instead of the coaching and helping his subordinates to do it themselves.

The Solution

If you have just been promoted to your first managerial position then you need the Manager's Tool Box. It doesn't matter if you have been promoted from the shop floor or from a graduate program you will be facing exactly the same problems. You suddenly have to learn to communicate, brief people, solve their problems, maybe discipline someone. And that's only the tip of the iceberg because your boss will need looking after - reports, production figures, lower costs, eliminate accidents, etc.etc.

Please give it try. You must be good or you wouldn't have been promoted so don't lose this opportunity to get it right now and forever. And don't forget that with my money back guarantee you have nothing to lose.
